It really depends on the length of stay planned when deciding between hotels, B & Bs, rented apartments, rooms or villas etc

As previously stated our aim is to share our personal experience of Lucca since we are not tour operators, hotel bookers or here to push the rooms, apartments or restaurants of our acquaintances onto you!

I have stayed in only two hotels, San Luca Palace Hotel (five-star) which was delightful and Hotel Piccolo Puccini (three-star) which was smaller, charming and reasonably priced. Most of the hotels inside the walls are small, independent and comfortable with a variety of tariffs. Larger more modern hotels are available outside the walls and this also applies to all other types of accommodation such as urban and rural villas, farmhouses etc.

Economics dictate that the longer the stay, the cheaper the daily rate ! The three rented apartments I have stayed in were also delightful so I can not relate any negative comments regarding accommodation. To be amongst the life of the city, it is recommended to stay within the walls and the areas nearer the walls furthest from the centre tend to be a little quieter. However nowhere is further than a 20 minute stroll away.
